After battling through some minor nagging injuries to start training camp rookie safety Major Wright is starting to make his push for playing time in 2010.  Wright has been back at practice the last couple days and has made his presence felt.  Wright also returns to working with the starters during practice with Danieal Manning now out with his own nagging injury problem.

According to reports from Jeff Dickerson and Sean Jensen Wright has picked up where he left off prior to his groin injury.  Wright has made numerous plays on the ball including a few INTs and a numerous batted balls.

From there Wright has allowed the Bears to bring Chris Harris up into the box in more of a Cover-3 look and putting more responsibility on the rookie to make big plays.  He's responded and there is debate on whether or not Wright will start this Saturday against the Chargers.

Major WrightLovie Smith has some nice praise for his safeties with the following from the SunTimes:

'Our safety play has been good,'' Smith said, ''and it was an area we felt we needed to improve.''

As for Wright, Smith said he has done a nice job of learning the team's defensive terminology.

''I've liked -- we've liked -- the way he's tackled also,'' Smith said. ''He's done some of the things we need a safety to do.''

One thing is for sure Danieal Manning may not to miss too much more time because Wright has  a reputation of being a gamer.  A reputation Manning most certainly lacks and only makes up for with his athletic ability.  Wright takes his job seriously and in the same vein is pushing for playing time behind the fifth year pro.

Wright is another to watch to see how he shows up under the bright lights and on the road in San Diego.  Wright will get  a chance to take on a very good Chargers passing offense as well as square up on rookie RB Ryan Mathews.  He should get more reps than the regular starters do and there will be a lot of pressure on the rookie to respond.  Pre-season is where teams run a lot more zone coverage looks they play all aspects of it from Cover-1 to Cover-4 and don't do a lot of blitzing, preferring to keep their defensive packages simple.

This means there will plenty of chances for the rookie third rounder to shine.  Wright may surprise and if he does it will be good news for the Bears.
