As promised I'll be keeping an updated running live blog from the NFL combine over the next few days.  Although we haven't gotten to the workouts yet, what we have done today is gotten the first height and weight measurements from the first group of players.
The offensive linemen stepped up today and took to the tape measure and the scale.  The official link to the height and weights can be found here from the NFL.com combine website.

Also in this blog NFL Network speculation regarding Terrell Owens winding up in Chicago, speculation based on team needs.  How do you feel about brining T.O. to Chicago to be Cutler's go to guy?
Some of the prospects the Bears may be targeting have stepped up and been measured:

Vladimir Ducasse OL came in at 6-foot-4 332-pounds an inch shorter and six pounds heavier than his listed weight from the CBSSports.com-NFLDraftscout.com website.  Depending on his arm length that could help to slide him inside as a guard prospect thus making him more likely to fall to the Bears.  Keeping an eye on Ducasse to see what the rest of his body fat index looks like and when they start coming out with reports on what he looks like with his shirt off.  Is he a natural 332-poiunder or does he look like he's carrying more weight than he should be at that height.

Sam Young OT from Notre Dame another later round prospect the Bears may be looking at came in at his legitimate 6-foot-8 316-pounds.  That type of height to go with that weight means that here is room for Young to add weight or if he chooses to, he can be solid at the weight he currently sits at.  Young is a right tackle only type of prospect in the same body as Phil Loadholdt.  I watched Loadholdt's combine workouts very intently last year and even though he was so highly thought of coming out, he really only fit the profile of a RT only.  His feet were far too slow to be a LT he struggled to handle speed rushers from the two and three point stance.  Young will be one of those guys to focus in on to see just how well his footwork looks at RT.  Size and strength are more important than footwork out at the RT spot, but if Young's footwork is as good as Loadholdt's he may move up the charts as a RT prospect.

Jon Asamoah from Illinois measured at 6-foot-4 305-pounds at the combine today, an inch shorter than his listed weight on the Illinois roster.  This also falls in line with the reports of him having some of the shortest arms of the O-Lineman prospects that showed up at the Senior Bowl.  Most sites do have Asamoah already listed at the 6-foot-4 range..but they have him heavier than the 305-pounds he weighed in at, at the combine.

From 670TheScore Zach Zaidman talked to Gil Brandt who hired Jerry Angelo for his first NFL job as a scout under Brandt. Brandt has a system in place where he evaluates all 32 teams on how well they draft and how well the players they draft stick in the league and have success. According to Brandt the Bears draft better, above average than most of the teams in the NFL. A team like the Broncos Brandt has listed as poor, where as throughout most circles the Broncos are considered great drafters. Lovie Smith is set to talk to the media tomorrow and there will be more information probably revealed about what the 2010 Bears roster will look like. Questions that likely be answered, whether Frank Omiyale may be moved out to RT instead of sticking at LG. My guess is Omiyale will stick on at LG based on the improvement he made towards the end of the season.

Rodger Saffold stepped up to the tape measure and the scale and as has been the case with nearly O-Line prospect today, measured in an inch shorter than his listed height, 6-foot-4 316-pounds, six pounds heavier than his listed weight.  Finding a true 6-foot-6 or taller OT in this draft looks like it won't be very likely.  Of the top NFL OT prospects that have been mentioned in the top-5 prospects not one measure out above the 6-foot-5 range at the combine today.  Okung, Williams, Brown, Bulaga, Davis, all are at 6-5...only Bruce Campbell came above 6-5 in at 6-foot-6.

Bears talk on the NFL Network's Total Access from the NFL Combine today from Jason LaConfora about the Bears being interested in Terrell Owens based on the Bears' need for a top flight receiver.  Jamie Dukes backed it up saying that Owen belongs in Chicago with Jay Cutler and his big arm.  The Bears desperately need a down the field threat at receiver and that none of the Bears' receivers are legitimate.  The Bears need a legitmate front line receiver because none of their receivers on the roster are legitimate front line guys.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with the receivers the Bears have on the field right now, they were plenty productive under Cutler's guidance, their production should get even better in Mike Martz's offense as Martz will do more to those guys open with his passing game and there will be more opportunities for them to make plays.  No the Bears don't have a legitimate number one threat that we have seen stand out for a 16 game season, but it's hard to argue with Hester's success and the potential we saw from Devin Aromashodu.  Cutler spread the ball around pretty evenly to his WRs in 2009 and I think adding a Terrell Owens to the mix only complicates things.

This is the type of speculation that winds up generating an completely unfounded rumor via ProFootballTalk.com or ESPN.com's rumor mill.  There is absolutely no validity to the idea that the Bears are going to chase a T.O. nor do I feel they need to given the success Cutler had in producing yards and generating big plays and first downs.
