How in the heck can that statement be true? How can you make the statement that the Bears face a must win game situation on opening day? That's a complete and total overreaction and is simply putting too much pressure on Lovie Smith and the Bears.
Sadly the truth is the Bears DO face a must win game situation on opening day.
This has nothing to do with the overall pressure on Lovie Smith to win or else, has nothing to do with negative feelings towards the Bears, negative lingering feelings from the pre-season. This statement is in no way related to my disdain for the Lions and that I'll hate the Bears or have disgust for the Bears or be extremely disappointed if the Bears lose to the Lions.
This situation is in no way related to the Detroit Lions polished and chromed and souped up band wagon that just about every NFL football analyst in the country is on. Nothing to do with the feeling that the Lions are on the way up and the Bears are on the way down in the eyes of the national media.
No proof is necessary to come out and make an early statement to prove the national media wrong and to knock the Lions off their Mathew Stafford, Ndamukong Suh and Jahvid Best powered Detroit hype machine.
Okay have I emphasized enough reasons yet?
Yeah I suppose I have put enough emphasis into the point, and has EVERYTHING TO DO WITH ONE SOLITARY THING. The playoffs and competing for the division title in a division in which two teams made the playoffs last year. If the Bears want a legitimate chance to make the playoffs they have to beat the teams within their division.
Beating the Lions is of the utmost importance because in order to make the playoffs you have to be in position in your own division. Playoff tie breakers start by who you've beaten within the division so beating the Lions is what matters most, especially at home.
Yes every argument in the world can be made that it's the Lions, and it's a rival and we hate our rivals and all Bears fans view the Lions as one of the worst franchises in the NFL so we must beat them. Fair enough, but the bottom line is they are within the division and it's a home game so starting off the season on the right foot by beating a divisional opponent is of the utmost importance for the Bears and their playoff chances.
