Kahlil Bell played well for the Chicago Bears last year, and Armando Allen played in two games for the Bears. Where Bell comes up short is holding on to the football and it puts him squarely on the hot seat.
Allen on the other hand is a dynamic player who is definitely pushing Bell for the third string RB spot. Allen was mentioned by Mike Tice during the OTAs and mini-camp and he is making noise at camp.
Allen is very fast, he hits the hole without hesitation and only needs a crease to get positive yards. Allen wears number 25, Garrett Wolfe's old number and looks like he's the type of player that Wolfe should have been. He also possesses good vision and hands which brings a solid new dimension to the offense.
Allen came to the Bears and a UDFA from Notre Dame last season. He showed well in camp and the pre-season as a rookie, but came up short in making the roster. The Bears kept Allen on the practice squad and then when Forte went down, he got the call.
Now with a full season of off-season activities under his belt and an obvious comfort level in the system, Allen is starting to shine. The second year player is squarely in the rest, and perhaps even ahead of Bell to be the third running back on the roster.
If there is a change of pace back that the Bears are looking to come in and be a different part of the offense, then Allen could be that guy.
